We believe that every website should have a frequently asked questions page and here is ours. See below a small sample of some questions we regularly receive and our responses. If you still have a question for us, you are welcome to call us on 01622 910065 or send us an email here.
Most mid to long coated pets will need professional grooming between every six and ten weeks, while short-coated breeds vary from eight to twenty weeks. Each breed of dog or cat will have their own individual coat type which determines their grooming requirements. Grooming your pet at home regularly will also have a bearing on the required grooming cycle. We are happy to discuss and advise to create a grooming cycle for your pet.
It must be said that the owner can make the most significant impact on the quality of their pet’s grooming. Regular examination of your pet will highlight any concerns regarding their coat and indeed, any health issues. Using the correct brush, comb, or grooming tools between appointments will help to maintain the groom. We are happy to advise and show the correct equipment and techniques if you would like some help.
A nervous dog requires a careful approach. Taking time to create a bond with lots of encouragement and gentle exposure to the sight, sounds and smell of the grooming studio and equipment helps to overcome the stimuli that has created the nervous reaction. We will never groom a dog who is not ready to undertake the groom.
We allow between 1 hour and 45 minutes to two hours for your pet’s appointment. Short-coated breeds generally take less time to groom. However, the size of the dog and coat type, along with the dogs own physical ability and temperament will affect the duration of the session. Some large breed dogs may require additional time, and this will be discussed upon booking.
Using the correct high quality, hair care products will allow the pet to be washed as often as two-weekly without any damage to the skin and coat. The frequency of your pet’s bathing will depend upon breed, coat type and your pet’s activity levels.
In all instances give us a call for advice. In the meantime, you are welcome to read our article here.
Each appointment starts with an initial consultation where we break down the different areas of your pet’s coat to decide how you would like it styled.
Photographs of your pet’s previous groom (or others from the internet) will help us to achieve your desired result. However, it is important to state physical attributes of a certain dog will vary across the breed so that not all coat types will accept a specific style. We will always explain and advise against a certain cut or clip in the event a certain request could potentially cause long term damage to the coat.
